Kings to Raise Championship Banner Tonight

The Los Angeles Kings will raise a banner emblematic of their second Stanley Cup in three seasons at tonight’s season opener against the San Jose Sharks at Staples Center.

The game is a rematch of the first-round series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Kings became the fourth team in league history and fifth in major North American professional sports to rally from a three-games-to-none deficit to win a series.

A limited number of tickets were released Tuesday night. Ticket information is available through the team’s Twitter account, Twitter.com/LAKings.

The team received another of the rewards of a championship Monday night when its championship rings were presented at a private dinner.

The face of the ring made by Tiffany & Co. is 32 millimeters and features the Kings’ shield, which includes 136 round diamonds. The top and bottom bezels surrounding the shield read “Stanley Cup Champions.”

The player’s name and number appear on the one shank, highlighted by the beaming lights of Staples Center, while the other showcases the Stanley Cup and the team’s overall playoff record, 16-10.

The championship ring can be viewed at Tiffany’s Beverly Hills store Friday through Sunday.

Several renovations were made to Staples Center since the Kings’ Stanley Cup-clinching 3-2 double overtime victory over the New York Rangers on June 13.

An LED sports lighting system arena officials say will save approximately $280,000 annually compared with the standard metal halide lighting was installed. Staples Center is the second arena with an NHL team with LED lighting system, following Montreal’s Bell Centre.

Other upgrades include the remodeling of the former American Express Platinum Lounge, now known as The Centurion Suite by American Express at
Staples Center. It is a VIP area for American Express Platinum Card and Centurion members complete with a full bar and exclusive menu options for purchase and a view of the arena for games.

The bar top in the San Manuel Club on Suite Level A has been extended to accommodate additional guests.

The suite also includes phone charging, flat-screen televisions, cocktail tables, bar height chairs and lounge seating. Admission to the suite is limited to Platinum Card and Centurion Members.
