Two people killed on the Ventura (134) Freeway in Glendale a high-speed collision while riding a motorcycle were being pursued at the time by California Highway Patrol officers, the CHP said today.
The pursuit began at the junction of the westbound Ventura and Foothill (210) freeways in Pasadena, triggered by a failure to yield, said CHP Officer Ryan Bejar. Bejar told a news videographer that the motorcycle traveled west at high speed before colliding with the rear of a white van.
A caller told a Los Angeles Fire Department dispatcher that the motorcycle was traveling at an estimated 100 mph, said Los Angeles Fire Capt. Roger Fowble. A short time later, the caller reported an explosion.
The collision was reported at 9:02 p.m. Monday, according to the CHP.
Both victims died at the scene, Fowble said.
