Wires sticking out out of a reality TV show crew’s carry-on bag caused a scare on a plane boarding at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) today, but a bomb squad verified there was no threat.
Airport police were notified of the bag aboard American Airlines flight 2593 to Redmond, Ore., about 12:45 p.m., said LAX Police Sgt. Karla Ortiz.
Passengers were ordered off the plane and a Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad was called in to investigate, she said.
At the same time, airport police interviewed four members of a reality television show crew, who said the bag contained their video equipment, Ortiz said.
The bomb squad verified their account, police cleared the scene at 2:25 p.m. and passengers were allowed to re-board the flight, she said.
The flight took off at 2:47 p.m., according to FlightAware.com, which listed the plane as a Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-200, a twin-engined jet.
Ortiz said it was operated by American Eagle and uses a remote terminal on the south side of LAX that is away from the airport’s central terminal area.
She did not know what television show the crew worked on or how many passengers were aboard the plane.
