Entertainer Ray J is in custody after being booked for resisting arrest, vandalism and related charges following a confrontation at a Beverly Hills hotel, police said on May 30.
The singer, actor and producer, whose given name is William Ray Norwood, was arrested at 7:30 p.m. on May 30 after an incident at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
Hoshino said police had originally been called to the hotel about a sexual battery, with Norwood alleged to have grabbed the buttocks of a female patron of the bar.
After the contact was established to be accidental, Norwood agreed to a suggestion by officers that he leave the bar, Hoshino said.
Norwood subsequently became belligerent with staff in the valet area of the hotel, Hishino said. They made a private citizens arrest for trespassing when Norwood refused to leave, Hishino said.
Norwood was taken into police custody and placed in the back of a patrol car, Hishino said. Still combative, Norwood kicked out the side window of the patrol car.
As officers attempted to restrain his feet, Norwood spat in one of their faces, Hishino said.
Norwood was subsequently booked on charges including battery on a police officer and trespassing, Hishino said.
His arrest was first reported by the celebrity news website, TMZ.
Ray J is the younger brother of singer and actress Brandy.
