A former Los Angeles mayor and a political action committee formally threw its support behind Bobby Shriver this week and endorsed his candidacy for the Los Angeles County Supervisors race.

Richard Riordan, who served as mayor of Los Angeles between 1993 and 2001, announced his endorsement of Shriver’s supervisorial candidacy. Also endorsing Shriver was the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee.

“The job of Los Angeles County Supervisor is a challenging and important one,” Riordan stated. “It requires someone who understands both local government and the private sector. I am endorsing Bobby Shriver for Supervisor because he has been successful in business, the non-profit world, and local government.”

In endorsing Shriver, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee stated it supported the former Santa Monica mayor because of his experience with business.

“The Chamber PAC is proud to declare its support of Bobby Shriver to be L.A County’s next Supervisor. Bobby Shriver will be a business friendly Supervisor who will focus on job creation, cutting needless red tape, and supporting our film, television, and entertainment industries,” Laurie Goldman, president of the Chamber’s political action committee, stated. “We are enthusiastic about what Bobby’s particular experience and expertise in business finance, and local government will bring to the business community of Hollywood and throughout all of L.A. County.”

Goldman elaborated on Shriver’s business experience and how it would benefit Los Angeles’ film industry.

“We know that Shriver will be a strong advocate for LA County’s creative economy,” Goldman stated. “The Chamber shares Bobby’s vision that not only are the arts and creative industries central to the identity of Los Angeles but they are a major source of employment and economic output, and a magnet for tourists and the highly skilled professional workforce that will help secure L.A.’s place as a world-leading 21st century metropolis.”
