An actor on the highly rated political thriller television series Scandal was arrested earlier this week after allegedly striking a man at a restaurant in West Los Angeles, it was reported.
Columbus Short was reportedly arrested March 26 in Claremont, Calif., 11 days after allegedly punching and knocking out a man.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s (DA) office, Short was charged with one count of felony battery with seriously bodily injury.
The 31-year-old actor was booked Wednesday by the Claremont Police Dept. and released on $50,000 bail, the DA’s office stated.
“Short allegedly punched a male guest at a West Los Angeles restaurant on March 15, knocking the victim out. The felony complaint for arrest warrant was filed Tuesday by Deputy District Attorney Lester Kuriyama with the Airport Branch,” the DA’s office added.
TMZ.com reported March 25 that Short was involved in a “bar fight” at Gabe’s Bar and Grill, located on Sepulveda Boulevard near National Boulevard in Rancho Park. According to the report, Short was at the venue celebrating a couple’s engagement when he allegedly engaged in an argument with another patron.
The victim, reportedly a 37-year-old male, was reportedly transported to the hospital after the alleged incident.
An arraignment date has yet to be determined but will be announced later.
Short faces up to four years in prison if he is convicted. The Los Angeles Police Dept. (LAPD) made his arrest pursuant to an investigation.
Scandal is currently in its third season on ABC; its season finale is April 17. Short is the lead male actor for Scandal and has been a series regular since the series debuted in April 2012. On the program, he portrays Harrison Wright.
Born in Kansas City, Mo., Short also starred in Armored, Cadillac Records, Stomp The Yard, and You Got Served. He also choreographed the Britney Spears “Onyx Hotel” Tour. In 2009, Short won an Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in Cadillac Records.
