Cinedigm, Wizard World To Launch Digital Comic Con Channel

Some Comic Con fans might soon have even less incentive to leave their mother’s basements, as Century City-based Cinedigm announced Feb. 12 it has partnered with Wizard World to launch a digital network gearing toward the demographic who attend the annual fan conventions.  The yet to be named Comic Con channel would give fans a chance to access themed content from an Internet-connected device, including Web-connected televisions, gaming consoles, mobile devises, tablets, and set top boxes.

“We are confident that the combination of [Wizard World’s] fan base, live event expertise, access to talent, audience focus and in-house production capabilities coupled with Cinedigm’s infrastructure, technology, content and distribution expertise, positions us for great success,” Cinedign Chairman and CEO Chris McGurk stated.

According to Cinedigm, fans will be able to watch “highly-curated feature films, television episodes, web series, live panel conversations, original programming and an e-commerce component.”

The e-commerce component would reportedly allow consumers to purchase collectibles and exclusive merchandise. A wide variety of genres would make up the network’s programming, Cinedigm stated, including action, adventure, animation, anime, comedy, fantasy, horror, and science fiction.

Cinedigm’s library features more than 33,000 films and television episodes as well as 650 digital content partnerships to fill the network. The Century City firm also has an acquisition team sourcing new content and programming.

“The new network will provide Comic Con enthusiasts with year-round access to compelling content,” a statement from Cinedigm said. “Both free-to-consumer, advertising supported streaming, as well as a premium subscription option will be available, featuring exclusive access to the events, panels, talent, and fans.”

According to Cinedigm, the demographic of the yet-to-be-named network are 18- to 44-year-old consumers.

The Beverly Hills entertainment management and consulting firm ROAR advised Cinedigm and Wizard World on the partnership. Cinedigm is an independent content distribution company based in Century City but with offices in Woodland Hills and Manhattan. Wizard World produces pop culture multimedia conventions.
