Jasmine Chen, who enters her senior year at Archer School for Girls this fall, recently won the California 30th District’s 2012 Congressional Art Competition. On May 11, 2012 Congressman Henry A. Waxman (CA-30), announced the winner.
Jasmine will see her painting, †Trail of Tears,†displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend a ceremony in recognition of her artistic achievement.
Since 1982, the U.S. House of Representatives has sponsored a nationwide high school arts competition. All high school students in the 30th Congressional District were invited to submit their artwork for the competition. Ms. Chen’s piece was chosen by a panel of experienced judges and the announcement was made at a reception held at the University of California, Los Angeles.
“I’d like to congratulate Jasmine for her outstanding entry and recognize all of the participants for their hard work, dedication to the arts and beautiful artwork,†Congressman Waxman said.
In addition to her artistic skills, Jasmine, is interested in English, history and politics. She is also serving as a summer intern.
