The World Is Just A Book Away founder James Owens will deliver the books to the school libraries his non profit funds in Indonesia.
The party at the store Scribble Press followed a June fundraiser at the preschool for the non-profit, which raised over $3000. The kids eagerly raised money by doing extra chores at home, and finding money on the sidewalk, and their total was augmented by a school auction event.
Launched in October 2008, the mission of The World Is Just A Book Away is to bring hope—in the form of books, libraries, and schools—to thousands of children in developing countries. The building program was launched in Sidoarjo, Indonesia, site of the mudflow disaster that displaced more than 60,000 people and destroyed many schools. To date, 22 libraries and one mobile library, providing 20,000+ books to over 10,000 children. Padang was selected next due to its being struck by multiple devastating earthquakes in the past decade.
“I am particularly moved by this library and by the process, since it links children in the US to children in Indonesia, and this forever creates a link between children who have books actually making and working to help buy books for children who have none,†says Owens.
