Local kids learn horseback riding at Hoof Prints in Rustic Canyon
Day camp is a great way to keep kids occupied and having fun all summer long. Los Angeles is home to many different camps, each with different activities and specialties to meet the interests of Brentwood summer campers.
Tumbleweed Day Camp, located just a few minutes from Brentwood, offers a plethora of traditional camp activities to its campers, ages 4-14 years old. Split up by grade level (entering PK-2nd graders, 3rd-6th graders, and 3rd graders and above), campers attend one of 3 Tumbleweed camps: Tumbleweed South, Tumbleweed North, or Tumbleweed Adventure – a field trip based program.
Camp tuition includes both pick-up and drop-off from convenient meeting point locations, with door-to-door service available in some areas. Daily bus pick-up is between 8-9:15 am, and drop-off between 4-5:15 pm.
Tumbleweed camps run from late June to mid-August. For more information on Tumbleweed Day Camp, visit www.tumbleweedcamp.com.
For equestrian lovers, Hoof Prints to Freedom at Rustic Canyon Ranch is the perfect summer camp. Located in Pacific Palisades, the camp hosts children ages 6-12 years old, of all skill levels. Monday to Thursday, from 9 am to 3:30 pm, campers can expect days learning the fundamentals of horse care, barn management, grooming, and of course horseback riding.
Founder Cheyenne Price describes the camp’s benefits: “Equine Interactive Learning encourages growth and learning through reflective experiential hands-on activities with horses, offering a practice leading to a better sense of Self-Awareness, Self-Responsibility, and Authentic Leadership.â€
Hoof Prints to Freedom’s first session starts June 10th, and operates through the first week of September. For more information, contact Cheyenne Price at makinghoofprints@gmail.com, (310) 230-7773, or visit www.rusticcanyonranch.com.
Summer Day Camp at the Brentwood Art Center hosts budding artists ages 5-13 years old. The camp is held on Brentwood Art Center’s premises, with campers and staff walking to a local school or park for lunch. Throughout each 2-week session, campers develop their creativity through drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking.
The Brentwood Art Center runs 1-week sessions from June 17th to June 28th, and August 12th to August 23rd. 2-week sessions begin July 1st, and run until August 9th.
Director Samantha Ollstein recommends parents register as soon as possible, as camps will fill quickly. For more information on the Brentwood Art Center’s Summer Day Camps, visit www.brentwoodart.com.
Tocaloma, located in Santa Monica, was founded in 1945 as a swim school in West LA, and has expanded as a summer day camp focusing on maintaining a strong swim program, accompanied by other camp activities. Along with rock climbing, archery, tennis, music, art, and more, campers ages 4-14 receive 30 minute daily swim lessons with Lifeguard Certified Instructors.
Tocaloma Summer Day Camp offers sessions from June 17th to August 16th. Camp drop off is from 8:30-8:55 am, with pick up between 3-4 pm.
The camp does have space available, but suggests that families apply soon to secure their ideal schedules. For more information on Tocaloma Day Camp, visit www.tocaloma.com.
