St. Matthews Parish School fourth grade will host the Annual Pacific Palisades Hunger Walk on Sunday March 21, 2010.
Every SMPS(St. Matthews Parish School) fourth grader will be walking in the event bringing with them pledges and donations. This many-year tradition raises badly needed funds to purchase food that is freely given to the needy through World Church Services, the national hosting organization. The program operates with the aim of assisting and enabling the world’s hungry in feeding themselves.
On Sunday, March 21, 2010 SMPH students will join together with classmates, family, friends, and the community at large, to walk along the 5K(3.1 mile) outlined course through the Palisades and the village. Rain or shine, the walk will go on!
Last year, this community-wide event raised over $30,000.00 with 25% benefiting the Westside Food Bank in Santa Monica, and the remainder going to CROP (Church World Service), which addresses hunger issues throughout the world. The Santa Monica Westside Food Bank distributes over 4 million pounds of food annually to 60 local socials service agencies serving low-income families, the homeless, elderly, unemployed and those in need in our community. CROP (Church World Services) partners with agencies in more the 70 countries to help provide food, shelter and more to impoverished and malnourished people throughout the world.
The event is a stellar example of how St. Matthews takes a responsible role in Serving the community, Leading by example and helping others to Flourish with the help of their efforts. The students are actively soliciting pledges and flat donations to support their efforts. The fourth graders have been super in this effort. Over the years SMPH 4th graders have walked in the cold and rain. Their enthusiasm to help others has never flagged.
