Several victims of a stabbing in Long Beach were hospitalized in critical condition today while others suffered superficial wounds, police said.
The suspect was shot and killed by police. He was identified by NBC4 as 28-year-old Derrick Leake.
The stabbings occurred at 8:18 p.m. Friday in the 3200 block of East Artesia Boulevard, according to Long Beach Police Department Sgt. Megan Zabel.
Three victims, a female and two males, were stabbed in an apartment complex on the north side of Artesia, Zabel said. The other three victims, all female, were stabbed in a convalescent home on the other side of Artesia, Zabel said.
Officers called to the scene confronted the suspect, at which point the shooting occurred, Zabel said.
The suspect died at the scene, Zabel said.
No information was available about the identity of the victims, Zabel said.
