A two-vehicle collision in Hollywood today left one motorist dead and the other motorist, who allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign, in custody, police said.
The collision occurred at Fountain and Curson avenues around 2 a.m., said Los Angeles police Officer Liliana Preciado.
According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect was driving north on Curson Avenue “at a high rate of speed” and failed to stop at a stop sign, Preciado said.
The suspect’s vehicle collided with a vehicle that was westbound on Fountain Avenue, and the second motorist was killed, Preciado said.
The name of the fatally injured man, who was in his 40s and from Panorama City, was withheld, pending family notification, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The crash resulted in a fire hydrant being sheared off, a news videographer reported from the scene. The suspect may have been injured.
