Persons who may have purchased a red heart-shaped box of See’s chocolates for their sweetie are being warned that their loved one should not eat them if they are allergic to nuts.
An “allergy alert on undisclosed nuts” was issued when the San Francisco-based company discovered a red heart with an incorrectly labeled chocolate base was mixed in with properly labeled boxes.
That means persons with allergies to coconut, almonds, walnuts, or pecans run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the candy.
The candy can be returned for refund. The company did not say if there was any hazard to non-allergic persons, but no illnesses have been reported to date.
See’s has factories in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and is the largest specialty candy company in California.
The recall affects all 8 ounce “Classic Red Hearts with Assorted Chocolates” with bar code 737666091201 and stamped date of “L.A.N. 048/15”. The product’s bar code is 737666091201.
