Culver City police asked on Thursday for the public’s help in tracking down a motorist who got into a street race with a fellow Mustang driver, triggering a multi-vehicle collision that left 11 people injured on Thanksgiving weekend.
The Nov. 28 crash happened about 2:45 p.m. on Slauson Avenue, east of Buckingham Parkway, near the Westfield Culver City mall. A white or silver Ford Mustang GT collided with a red Mustang, according to Culver City police, who said a total of eight vehicles were ultimately involved.
“Witnesses stated that one of the racers stopped briefly, surveyed the scene, and then fled the area in a silver or white 2004 to 2006 Ford Mustang GT hardtop,” according to a police statement. “The Mustang was reported to have sustained moderate front-end damage and red paint transfer to the passenger front side from the other racing vehicle (a red Mustang).”
The light-colored Mustang might also have passenger side rim damage from a curb impact, police said.
“It is believed that the owner/driver of the outstanding vehicle may attempt to disassociate himself from this event by falsely reporting a different set of loss, facts and location,” according to police.
Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle or driver was urged to call Culver City police Detective Jason Davis at (310) 253-6275, or email him at jason.davis@culvercity.org.
