UC’s Bid to Halt Strike Rejected by PERB, Unfair Labor Practice Complaint Issued
The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) has denied the University of California’s request for injunctive relief against the ongoing Stand Up Strike by UAW 4811 academic workers. The request, initially made by the UC Administration on May 21, aimed to halt the strike.
PERB has denied UC’s second request for an injunction and issued a complaint against UC, finding that there was a prima facie case that UC had committed the serious unfair labor practices that academic workers had alleged on June 3.
J. Felix De La Torre, General Counsel for PERB, stated, “By direction of the Board, the request for injunctive relief in the above-entitled matter is denied without prejudice, sufficient grounds therefor not having been demonstrated.”
The UCLA Faculty Association has also filed separate Unfair Labor Practice charges against the UC system today, according to The Daily Bruin. These ULP charges stem from UCLA’s treatment of faculty during the Palestine Solidarity Encampment and after the camp was dispersed.
