Erratic Driver Rams Police Car, Causes Multiple Collisions During Pursuit
An erratic driver suspected of assault with a deadly weapon was arrested Friday morning following a high-speed pursuit that spanned surface streets and the 405 freeway, resulting in multiple collisions and minor injuries to several officers.
The incident began around 4:45 a.m. when Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division patrol officers responded to reports of a female driver behaving erratically at Rose Avenue and 3rd Avenue. The suspect allegedly rammed her vehicle into a police car and fled, prompting a pursuit.
As the chase continued onto the northbound 405 freeway, the suspect struck the pursuing officers’ vehicle. The pursuit escalated when the suspect drove southbound on the northbound lanes of the 405 freeway, colliding with three other vehicles. One motorist and five officers sustained minor injuries. Two of the officers were transported to a local hospital, treated, and released.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene, but no extrications were necessary. The suspect was apprehended and taken to a local hospital for treatment and observation. Investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the suspect’s behavior.
The suspect’s booking information will be released once available.
