Using a 3D Printer to Design Casino Buildings in Canada

3D printing is a new phenomenon and indeed many people have never even heard of it. However, when you watch a YouTube video on a 3D printer in operation, your mind will be blown away, even if you are not interested in construction at all. 3D design and printing are economical, save money and human labour, are ecological and build structures in no time!

But can it be possibly used to design and build casinos? We toyed with the idea and discussed it with Canadian iGaming expert Michelle Thomas.

How printing buildings work

In case you still haven’t checked out those youtube videos, here is how printing buildings works. First of all, you have a structure: a gantry-type system or a robotic arm system. The system has a special nozzle where the material is pushed out to form layers. The filaments have to be paste-type components such as concrete. Paste extrusion is a similar process to using a piping bag to spread whipped cream on ice cream.

Printing houses, bridges, offices

3D printing is still in its early years, but several countries have already benefited from quickly built houses and other structures. Large buildings, such as shopping malls, hotels, or casinos haven’t been constructed yet. If you would love to gamble in a printed casino, you’ll have to wait for a while but until then why not play online at one of https://casinocanada.com/ casinos that accept players from Canada.

3D printing has several advantages, but it also comes with limitations.

Main advantages of 3D printing:

  • Eco-friendliness – less material is wasted, and 3D printers often use solar energy
  • Economical – using a 3D printer for building walls costs less than half of traditional construction
  • Efficiency – 3D printing of a small-size home takes as little as one day and offices can be built in a couple of weeks
  • Design flexibility – Design with a 3D printer can be unique. For example, you can construct curved walls

Limits of 3D printing:

  • Price of equipment – the initial investment in a 3D printer can be anything between $180.000 and $1million
  • Partial building only – a 3D printer can only build the foundation and the frames of the house. Plumbing, electricity, floor covering still needs to be completed manually
  • Lack of certification – constructions are highly regulated in Canada, the US, and all developed countries and 3D printers don’t fully qualify everywhere
  • Size limits – there are clear limitations of size. There are different printer models available, but the build volume is somewhere around 20 meters in any direction.

3D printed casino ideas

As mentioned before, very large structures are out of the question, at least for now. You’ll not soon see another Montreal Casino constructed with a 3D printer but smaller gambling places such as a Zodiac Casino $1 deposit may very well be created.

Casino room within a casino

We can manufacture a 600 to 800-square-foot home in just 24 hours, so why couldn’t we build a small casino room within the walls of a casino. Those of us who like to play poker, appreciate an intimate, standalone room away from the noise of the slot machines. We believe a poker building would be a useful addition to any large casino floor. On that note, if you would like to improve your poker skills, check out this article about poker psychology

Mini casinos at Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls features quite a few casinos on the Canadian side but there would definitely be more space for a few small casinos. Perhaps these mini-casinos could be dedicated to just one game, be it bingo, sports betting, or poker.

Printing decorations or furniture

3D printers can be used to construct furniture, sculptures, or decoration, not only from concrete, but bioplastics, plastics or metals. Building a mini version of Venice, the Sphinx, or the Eiffel tower proved to be successful in Vegas, so why couldn’t we create some awesome and recognizable objects to attract punters inside the casino?

Conclusion

3D printing is creating small structures like houses or bridges with low cost and less labour and energy within very short timeframes. So far, there are clear limits on the sizes of these structures but in the future complex buildings might use 3D printing technology, and soon we may be able to play at 3D-printed casinos.
