Hall Of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax said today he will remain part of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization although he is retiring as a special adviser to the chairman.
“I’m 80 years old and I have retired,” Koufax said today in a statement issued by the team.
“I have not quit. I’m still part of the Dodgers organization and always will be especially as long as Mark and Kimbra Walter are part of ownership,” he said. Mark Walter is the team’s chairman and controlling owner and Kimbra is his wife.
“I will do most of what I have done in the past with no official title,” Koufax said. “I hope all the players, coaches, manager and everyone else in the clubhouse have successful and healthy seasons with a spectacular ending.
“See you opening day.”
Koufax rejoined the Dodger organization in January 2013 in a role that included attending a portion of spring training to work with Dodger pitchers, and consulting with the team throughout the year.
MLB.com first reported Friday that Koufax would no longer be a special adviser to the chairman.
