A documentary on slain journalist James Foley will air on HBO Feb. 6, the premium pay cable channel announced Tuesday.
“Jim: The James Foley Story,” tells the story of Foley’s life through interviews with his family, friends and fellow journalists, while fellow hostages reveal never-before-heard details of his captivity, according to HBO.
The documentary will have its world premiere in the U.S. documentary competition of the Sundance Film Festival later this month. It is directed by Brian Oakes, a close childhood friend of Foley’s, who was kidnapped in Syria in Nov. 22, 2012 and beheaded by the Islamic State group on Aug. 19, 2014.
“I made this film to carry on the stories that Jim needed us to know,” Oakes said. “It’s important that we understand the significant role of today’s conflict journalists and why they risk their lives to tell the world how bad it can be.”
