A man was shot to death early today at a Hawthorne apartment complex by a man with a rifle, who was then arrested, authorities said.
The shooting occurred in the 13000 block of South Prairie Avenue around 1:30 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The wounded man, who was in his 20s, died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. His name was withheld, pending family notification.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, will be booked on suspicion of murder, sheriff’s Lt. Dave Coleman told Fox11.
“To the best of our knowledge, a female accompanied by a male arrived at an apartment in the complex,” Coleman said. “At some point, some type of argument ensued with the suspect, (who) produced a rifle and began shooting at the male and female.”
The man was fatally wounded, but the woman was not injured, Coleman said. The nature of the argument was not immediately disclosed.
