Being a Scorpio, Halloween has been my favorite holiday since childhood. Never portrayed the blonde haired, blue-eyed princess; but usually the dark haired villain, witch or sorceress, was my costume of choice.
This year I had to share my experiences in the world of Halloween, in Opera, Vegas, and my animal friends, who donned adorable costumes to help raise funds for the Amanda Foundation, the only rescue in L.A. with a veterinary practice.
Via Rodeo was turned into the Zombie-themed “Night of the Living Dog”, and there was a doggy costume contest which brought out such celebs as Pauley Perrette (“NCIS”), Kristen Bauer van Straten (“True Blood”), and Lisa Vanderpump with Giggy (“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”). Beverly Hills Mayor Lilli Bosse even announced plans for the city’s very first dog park.
Then it was off to Vegas and a huge soiree at the fab Palazzo Hotel, where the $50,000 Cauldron of Cash Tournament was held; as well as a costume party.
I had to share a photo of yours truly (in my favorite Indian Sari) with the winner of the costume event – the Headless Horseman – who had to take his head off to eat!
And last, but not least, we attended the opening night performance of “Dido and Aeneas,” and “Bluebeard’s Castle” at the Music Center and were both chilled and charmed by the outstanding performances of the opera stars.
We all know the horrifying story of Bluebeard, but Robert Hayward’s slick and sorrowful portrayal of this tortured soul, was outstanding.
His latest wife, Judith wants to bring light into his cold, damp castle, and forces Bluebeard to open the seventh door – which reveals his three previous wives! German Soprano, Claudia Mahnke suited this role with perfection.
Do you know anyone who had a better Halloween than moi?
