The Brentwood Community Council (BCC) arranged for a community emergency response team (CERT) course for the Brentwood Community. CERT is taught by the LAFD. The instructor, Mitch McKnight, presented relevant information dealing with fires, earthquakes, floods, evacuations, search, rescue, medical issues, food and water storage, equipment and supplies to store, etc. with a great sense of humor making the course interesting and fun.
Classes are normally offered once a week for seven weeks, but due to doubling up, we completed the program in five weeks, ending April 11. A certificate was presented to each participant after completing all classes.
We had a great turn out for this program due to the publicity from the BCC’s e-mail blast, the Brentwood News, and Home Owners Associations (HOA). Normally, LAFD requires a minimum of 25 students, but we had more than twice that.
Now, it’s time for the various HOAs in Brentwood to organize “their†respective, certified residents so that they can be coordinated and thus useful in an emergency.
Special thanks to Paul Revere Charter Middle School, ideal for easy access for our community, which allowed us to use their facilities for the evening classes.
