Looking for something fun to do on Thursday nights? M.i’s Westside Comedy Theater—yes, folks there is a great comedy theatre located in the back alley of the Santa Monica Promenade just behind the food court—has the solution.
“Level 1 Improv is an exciting introduction to the art of improv comedy,†says Colin J. Sweeney, the theatre’s Director of Education. “The class covers the core principles, ideals, concepts and vocabulary of improvisation.â€
The goal of M.i.’s Westside Comedy Training Center is to create a warm, fun and safe learning environment that cultivates knowledgeable, well-rounded performers armed with the skills to succeed as working improvisers.
“Improv is one of the most important tools to have as a performer. It teaches you to tap in to your unique sense of humor and to trust your natural instincts. Students learn to relax and gain confidence speaking in front of people and that translates to improved success in auditions, on stage as well as in your everyday work and social life,†continues Sweeney.
Kristin Hensley—who has studied with the Groundlings and ACME, and is a graduate The Second City Conservatory—will teach the classes.
The next six-week session kicks off Thursday, July 29 at 7 p.m., and meets once a week for three hours. A student performance follows at the end of the session. For rates and info: www.westsidecomedy.com
