Predictably, notoriously liberal Hollywood celebrities reacted joyously today to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing same-sex marriage.

Actor George Takei, who is best known as Mr. Sulu on “Star Trek” but has been a longtime gay-rights advocate and married his partner in West Hollywood after same-sex marriage was legalized in California, beamed with pride on Twitter as he hailed the ruling.

“My eyes shine with tears as marriage equality is ruled the law of the land,” he wrote. “What a pride weekend it shall be.”

Other celebrities also took to Twitter to make their feelings known.

“Really encouraged to be an American today,” singer Katy Perry wrote. “Love should live beyond labels and intolerance.”

Chaz Bono, the transgender son of Sonny Bono and Cher, said he had just landed in Canada and turned on his cell phone “to find out marriage equality is the law of the land. Wow! Thanks again #SCOTUS.”

Actor Bryan Cranston, best known as Walter White in “Breaking Bad,” wrote, “2 great things: marriage equality & basic health care are finally the law. Why the pres. election is so critical — Supreme Court appointees!”

Oscar-winning director/actor Ben Affleck said the ruling marks a “big moment for our country. Thank you SCOTUS.”

Patrick Stewart wrote, “A great day for love,” while Jennifer Lopez wrote, “It’s simple. Love always & all ways.”

Actor Matt Bomer, who appears in the upcoming “Magic Mike XXL,” wrote, “Today is a huge step forward for our country and my family. I’m so grateful and happy.”

Seth MacFarlane, the creator of “Family Guy” and writer/director of the film “Ted 2,” which opens today, wrote “Congratulations America for finally catching up to the modern era with this landmark step forward for gay and lesbian rights. Each new civil rights conflict is seen as ‘different than the last.’ But bigotry is bigotry. So next time this happens, don’t take so long.”
