Visitors to Disneyland will encounter stepped-up security today, with the theme park taking extra precautions in response to word that the gunman who killed 49 people in Orlando, Florida, may have scouted Disney World as a possible target.
Disney officials said security had been ramped up at all of its theme parks as a precaution.
“Unfortunately we’ve all been living in a world of uncertainty, and during this time we have increased our security measures across our properties, adding such visible safeguards as magnetometers, additional canine units, and law enforcement officers on site, as well as less visible systems that employ state-of-the-art security technologies,” Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Wahler said.
FBI Director James Comey said Monday investigators were working to confirm whether gunman Omar Mateen had scouted Disney World and other locations before unleashing his deadly attack at the Pulse nightclub early Sunday morning.
People.com, citing an anonymous law enforcement source, reported that Mateen had recently visited Disney World with his wife.
