Today Senator Ben Allen recognized the dental practice of Dr. Jay Grossman and Associates as Senate District 26’s Small Business of the Year. The award was presented to Dr. Grossman at a luncheon in Sacramento honoring outstanding small businesses from legislative districts across the state.
Known by his patients as “Dr. J”, Dr. Grossman has provided quality dental care at his Brentwood office for 30 years. As a former United States Naval Dental Officer, and with the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration facility located close to his practice, Dr. Grossman has dedicated much of his time to giving free dental care to homeless veterans.
In 1992, he created a nonprofit program called “Homeless not Toothless,” and put together a network of dentists who volunteer their services each month at a dedicated suite in his office for homeless patients. The program was expanded to serve foster youths, 16,000 of whom were served last year alone. Since the program’s inception, Dr. Grossman and his team of volunteer dentists have provided more than $3 million in free dental care.
“Dr. Grossman’s tireless commitment to serving our homeless veterans and foster youth is inspirational,” Senator Allen said. “I commend him and his team of volunteers for giving so many people of all ages a reason to smile again.”
