BookArtsLA Presents Art Events To Attend

logoAre you a lover of art who wants to fill their weekend time with something fun? Take a look at these upcoming events, and decide what event to attend.
Find something fun and artistic to do at BookArtsLa, a nonprofit organization devoted to bringing the beauty of printing, binding and collecting all types of handmade books to the public. Located in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles on 11720 Washington Blvd, our 1600 square foot space houses letterpresses, a bindery and workspace for up to 20 students.
On Saturday, April 16, from 9 am – 4 pm, you have the choice to attend THE POWER OF PLACE: EVERYTHING HAPPENS SOMEWHERE. This is a writing-based workshop intended to help a writer render place with deftness and clarity, all applicable to your own artist books. The instructor is named Jim Natal. All people are welcome to attend. To register, see: http://bookartsla.org/products/the-words-in-the-book-creating-content-for-artists-books-april-16
Another captivating event presented by BookArtsLa also will happen on Sunday, April 17 from 9 am to 1 pm. This workshop is entitled, SINGLE SHEET SEWING. In this workshop, you will learn about Single Sheet Sewing, which is a modified Coptic stitch using multiple needles. Developed by Keith Smith, this versatile binding is a must for book artists because the open book lays completely flat. The structure should be in every binder’s repertoire. The instructor is Danita Rafalovich. To register, see: http://bookartsla.org/products/copy-of-1006-single-sheet-sewing-february-6-from-9-am-to-1-pm

If these two events are still not enough for your art loving soul, feel free to attend LOVING OLD BOOKS AN EVENING TALK WITH STEPHANIE GIBBS.

Stephanie is presenting a talk at BookArtsLA about the care and special considerations for old books. Ms Gibbs is conservator, book enthusiast, expert about vellum, historical bibles, leather bindings and much more.
