A three-day food drive will begin today at Angel Stadium, where fans will have the chance to hit, pitch and catch balls and visit the Angels clubhouse in exchange for donations of food or money for the poor.
Each donation of three cans of food or $2 will give a person the chance to stand at home plate and swing at one pitch thrown by a pitching machine.
There is a 20-pitch maximum per person.
Each donation of two canned food items or $1 will allow fans to throw one pitch in the bullpen.
A $25 donation will give individuals the chance to catch fly balls in the outfield for 30 minutes.
Bats, balls and helmets will be provided. It is suggested participants bring their own gear to participate in the on-field activities.
Tours of the Angels clubhouse will be provided — for a $15 donation for adults and a $10 donation for children.
All proceeds collected during the 13th annual Thanksgiving Holiday Canned Food Drive conducted by the groundskeepers for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County in its fight against hunger during the holiday season.
The drive will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. Participants can enter the stadium through Gate No. 1 and proceed to the field level.
People who can’t attend but want to make a monetary donation may send checks to Second Harvest Food Bank, 8014 Marine Way, Irvine, Calif. 92618.
