A Hollywood Hills man who celebrated his 104th birthday today attributes his longevity to never using cigarettes or drinking alcohol and getting sleep every night.
Ashley Boone, who has lived at Belmont Village Hollywood Hills for four years, blew out candles on a birthday cake.
“I didn’t drink and I wasn’t too much on staying out late,” Boone told the press at his birthday party. “I got my sleep every night and when it was time to go to work, I went to work and did the best I could.”
Boone — who grew up in Illinois and moved to California in the 1980s — worked three jobs at a time, mostly as a repairman to support his family. His daughter, Cheryl Boone Issacs, who is president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, said she is amazed her dad is 104 with no illnesses.
“I think the secret to it all as he said is good rest, which is true, but also do what you like best … and find happiness wherever you can,” Issacs said.
His favorite activities include trips around Los Angeles — from the beach to the mountains — and especially the views from Griffith Observatory, she said.
Boone’s son, Ashley, Jr., reportedly passed away in 1994 at the age of 55.
