Allure Pharmacy Removes Offending Sign

Allure Pharmacy, at 11670 San Vicente Blvd. (across from Union Bank), recently parked a van in front of its down-the-street competitors, CVS and Pharmaca, with a sign on top of the van that spelled out the advantages of switching to Allure.
Several residents of Brentwood contacted the Brentwood News to indicate their displeasure, not only with an advertising technique they found “tacky,†but because the van displayed a handicapped placard hanging from the rear-view mirror that enabled the van to stay there day after day without paying for parking.
When first contacted by the Brentwood News, Ben and Bob Kadkhoda, owners of Allure, defended their actions, saying the advertising was working for them and that they were just trying to survive, as a new business, in a difficult economy.
They also said use of the handicapped placard was “completely legal†(this is true according to the LAPD, which is now exploring how to close this loophole).
Minutes after being interviewed by the Brentwood News, Ben Kadkhoda called to inform Brentwood’s local newspaper and its readers that because some in the neighborhood were offended, Allure Pharmacy would now halt the practice.
The Kadkhodas said nobody had informed them that there was an issue, but now that they knew, they would no longer employ this technique, adding that they wanted to be good neighbors.
Nancy Freedman, head of the BCC, said she had gone into the store maybe two weeks ago, basically informing Allure that “this is not how we do things in Brentwood.â€
