Filing Period Open for West Los Angeles Council Board

The candidate-filing period for those seeking to run for an open board seat on the West Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (WLANC) is now open.

According to the WLANC website, all 15 seats are open in this year’s board election, which is set for May 18 at the West Los Angeles Civic Center Farmers Market.

Interested candidates have until April 3 to file papers. Those who live, own property, work, or otherwise declare to be a “community interest stakeholder” in the WLANC territory are eligible to run for office. Potential candidates must be at least 18 years old.

According to the WLANC, a Community Interest Stakeholder is “defined as a person who affirms a substantial and ongoing participation within the Neighborhood Council’s boundaries and who may be in a community organization such as, but not limited to, educational, non-profit and/religious organizations.”

The available board seats are:

  • North East District Representative (1 open seat)
  • North West District Representative (1 open seat)
  • South East District Representative (1 open seat)
  • South West District Representative (1 open seat)
  • Large Business Representative (1 open seat)
  • Small Business Representative (2 open seats)
  • Organizational Representative (2 open seats)
  • At-Large Representative (6 open seats)

To register or to find about the qualifications for the 15 open seats, please visit the WLANC page on the Empower L.A. website by April 3.

Candidates are asked to formally submit his or her filing papers online. However, a candidate form can be downloaded and emailed to Los Angeles City Hall. The email address is clerk.election@lacity.org.

Candidate forms can also be faxed to (213) 978-0376 or mailed to City Clerk Elections Division, 555 Ramirez Road, Space 300, Los Angeles, Calif., 90012.

The May 18 election at the West Los Angeles Farmers Market will be held between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

WLANC is bounded by Wilshire Boulevard to the north, the 10 Freeway to the south, the 405 Freeway to the east, and the City of Santa Monica/Centinela Avenue to the west.
