Saturday, May 19th, 2012 at 7:00pm
Centinela Valley Center for the Arts – 14901 South Inglewood Avenue in Lawndale
An evening of six original plays written and performed by students from three Middle Schools: Dana, Lennox, and Will Rogers.
Inside Out’s mission is to transform the lives of youth from underserved communities through arts and media education. This performance marks the culmination of Inside Out Community Arts’ semester-long after school theater arts program led by specially trained professional actors and artists.
The production will feature six original one-act plays, written and performed by middle school students about issues of importance to them. At this performance, student plays explore topics that include: running away, child abuse, domestic violence, and the power of rumors.
Inside Out Community Arts is excited to be bringing its award-winning programs to the South Bay for the first time as part of the TakePART initiative. TakePART is a collaborative arts initiative spearheaded by the nonprofit P.S. ARTS with major support from the Herb Alpert Foundation between five school districts in the Centinela Valley, including Centinela Valley Union High School District, Lawndale Elementary School District, the Lennox School District, the Hawthorne School District, and the Wiseburn School District, and multiple community, arts, and philanthropic partners.
Inside Out Community Arts participation in TakePART is made possible with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment and The Eisner Foundation. TakePART is dedicated to bringing comprehensive arts education programs into these school districts, both in-school and after-school, where programs have previously been reduced due to budget cuts.
“It is exciting to see just how much can be accomplished when different districts, nonprofits and funders pool resources and coordinate efforts to achieve a common vision.” – Alison Forbes, Inside Out Executive Director of Advancement
