A delegation from LA 2024, which is trying to bring the 2024 Summer Olympics to Los Angeles, arrived in Lausanne, Switzerland, today for talks that the group says will be “about what is required to deliver the best possible athlete experience for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
The delegation is led by LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman and includes CEO Gene Sykes, U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun and several other members of both LA 2024 and the U.S.O.C.
They will meet with global sport leaders and members of international sports federations at the SportAccord Convention 2016, according to an LA 2024 statement.
The convention, which began Sunday and ends April 22, brings together representatives from more than 100 Olympic and non-Olympic international federations, and others, “to exchange ideas and best practice for the development of the international sports movement,” it said.
“LA 2024 is committed to collaborating closely with all international federation in order to deliver a Games Plan focused on the needs of the athletes,” the statement said.
Wasserman said his delegation is “delighted to have this opportunity to listen about how to deliver competitions of the highest standard if we had the honor of hosting the Games in 2024.”
Blackmun said U.S. Olympic Committee members “are very happy to be here in Lausanne and to be supporting the LA 2024 bid” for the 2024 games.
