“By the Sea,” written, directed and produced by Angelina Jolie Pitt, who also stars in the film with husband Brad Pitt, will have its world premiere this fall at AFI Fest 2015, the American Film Institute announced today.
The film that follows an American writer (Pitt) and his wife (Jolie Pitt) upon their arrival in a tranquil seaside resort in 1970s France, with their marriage in apparent crisis, will open the film festival on Nov. 5 at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre.
The 29th edition of AFI Fest takes place Nov. 5-12 in Hollywood. Screenings and galas will also be held at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, Dolby Theatre, Egyptian Theatre and Hollywood Roosevelt hotel.
The full festival lineup and schedule will be unveiled in October.
“AFI has long supported the boldness and experimentation that accompanies provocative cinema,” said Jolie Pitt, whose latest film is inspired by European cinema and theater of the 1960s and ’70s.
“As a filmmaker, and on behalf of our cast and crew, I am honored to launch the film at the opening night gala for AFI Fest,” she said.
Free individual tickets to screenings and events will be available to the general public online at AFI.com beginning Oct. 26. Available for purchase now at AFI.com are AFI Fest patron packages and express passes — which can include access to sold-out galas and other high-demand films and events.
