Residents and admirers took to the streets Sunday, Aug. 9 to
learn about the rich history within the grounds of San Vicente’s
famous courtyard houses. Watch the video to learn about style,
time-periods, and landscape details of these homes, most built between
1937 and 1953. The tours began at the northeast corner of San Vicente
Blvd. and 4th Street.
Courtyard housing is unique to Southern California. The buildings are
two-and-three stories, configured around a landscaped open space, and
designed in various architectural styles such as Streamline Moderne,
American Colonial Revival, and Mid-Century Modern.
