Reps. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, and Alan Lowenthal, D- Long Beach, are among supporters of an effort unveiled Tuesday urging the Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nominee to campaign on “big, bold, economic-populist ideas that tangibly improve the lives of millions of Americans.”

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee announced Tuesday that more than 5,000 Democratic elected officials and activists have signed on to the ReadyforBoldness.com joint statement urging former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and all other other potential Democratic candidates to run on such ideas as debt-free college at all public colleges and universities, expanding Social Security benefits, stricter regulation of Wall Street, reducing big money influence in politics, increasing wages and creating millions of clean energy jobs.

“ReadyForBoldness.com is a big tent with 5,000 political leaders who support Hillary Clinton, other potential candidates or nobody — all saying the best way for Democrats to win in 2016 is by campaigning on bold, economic populist ideas that are popular with voters,” said Adam Green, a co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, is also among those who have signed on to the statement.

Ninio Fetalvo, a Republican National Committee regional press secretary told City News Service, referring to Clinton, “Democrats said it themselves — they want a presidential nominee who campaigns on ‘big, bold, economic-populist ideas,’ but where does their presumptive nominee lie on the issues?

“She’s been avoiding the press and the American people on all issues, and can’t even address her secret email server.”

Nick Merrill, a spokesman for Clinton, declined to comment. Clinton is expected to declare her candidacy this month.
