Los Angeles Kings to hold Hockey Fights Cancer Night

The Los Angeles Kings will hold Hockey Fights Cancer Night at tonight’s game against the Buffalo Sabres at Staples Center, raising funds and support for cancer-related charitable organizations.

An auction of the autographed lavender jerseys the Kings will wear during pregame warmups will be held, with proceeds benefiting cancer-related organizations. Bids can be submitted by texting KINGS to 52182, online at kings.myab.co or by using the team’s app.

Lavender is the color representing awareness for all types of cancer.

#kingsfcancer merchandise will be sold at the Team LA store and kiosk locations in Staples Center, with proceeds benefiting Hockey Fights Cancer-associated charities.

Fans making any donation at the Kings Care Foundation booth will receive an 8 1/2-by 11-inch #kingsfcancer card to honor those who have battled cancer.

Fans are asked to use the hashtag #kingsfcancer on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram when sharing images of their loved ones who are affected by cancer. A memorial/survivor wall at Staples Center will feature these images as part of a collage.

Fans will have two opportunities to be entered in a drawing for a 2014 Stanley Cup fan replica ring — by donating blood between 6-7:30 p.m. at the Children’s Hospital Blood Mobile located outside Staples Center’s Chick Hearn Court entrance or by signing up for the Bone Marrow Registry outside Section 116.

Fans are invited to stop by information booths belonging to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Camp Ronald McDonald For Good Times, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, National Brain Tumor Society and Be The Match, which facilitates transplants for patients who need a marrow transplant from an unrelated donor, to learn more about how they can become involved.

More information about #kingsfcancer is available at the King Care Foundation booth or by calling (310) 535-4467.

The Hockey Fights Cancer initiative was founded in December 1998 by the NHL and National Hockey League Players Association. More than $12.8 million has been raised to support national and local cancer research institutions, children’s hospitals, player charities and local cancer organizations.

The game will be the Kings first since defenseman Slava Voynov was suspended indefinitely by the NHL Monday following his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence.
