Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in the second season of HBO’s “True Detective,” the cable network announced today.
Production on the eight-episode, hourlong drama series will begin later this fall in California.
Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan starred in the eight-episode first season, which premiered in January and concluded March 9.
Taiwanese-born film director Justin Lin, known for his work on “Better Luck Tomorrow” and “The Fast and Furious” franchise, will helm the first two episodes of the new season, which will focus on three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”
Vaughn will portray Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”
Additional casting is pending.
The series is created and written by Nic Pizzolatto, a New Orleans-born novelist, screenwriter and producer.
