Elizabeth English, Head of School at The Archer School for Girls in Brentwood, spoke at TEDxWomen in Culver City on Oct. 27.
The mission of TEDxWomen is to call forth the vital creative power of its participants by shining a light on women innovators who are reimagining, redefining, and shaping the world in their own images, based on deeply personal values, perspectives and vision.
This year’s theme, “It’s About Time,” brought together female leaders across Los Angeles to the sold out event.
English spoke about female leadership, the disadvantages women face in today’s society, and how women can inoculate their daughters against the “Chilly Climate.”
According to the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools, graduates make up one third of Fortune 500 board members and 67 percent of heads of state.
“In co-ed settings, we call on boys more, give more praise and interrupt them less… the power of a girls’ school is in its sisterhood and consciousness-raising,” English said.
