Elections for the Mar Vista Community Council took place June 5 and June 14. The new board was sworn in by 11th District Councilmember Mike Bonin at a ceremony at the Mar Vista Community Rec. Center.
The new 2016/2017 board comprises Chair Rob Kadota, 1st Vice Chair Sarah Auerswald, and 2nd Vice Chair Joseph D. Galloway, Paola Cervantes, Robin Doyno, Sherri Akers, Michelle Melody Fair, Susan Klos, Greg Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Ken Alpern, Melissa Stoller, Michelle Krupkin and Holly Tilson.
Chair Rob Kadota served on the council between 2002-2010 and was also Chair from 2006-2009.
First Vice Chair Auerswald is a 20-year Mar Vista resident and is known locally as “Mar Vista Mom” based on the website of the same name she launched in 2008, which chronicles events in and around Mar Vista.
Sherri Akers was a founding member and is the Co-chair of the Mar Vista Community Council Green Committee and is the co-founder of Mar Vista’s Green Garden Showcase, Water Wise Expo, and the Green Tent at every Sunday’s Mar Vista Farmers Market.
Holly Tilson is a retired NICU RN and has volunteered with LAUSD, learning how to link local issues to broader policies that affect everything from traffic and safety to schools and quality of life issues.
