Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) joined fellow House Democrats to film a call for environmental justice in the face of the Republican Majority’s abrogation of its responsibility to act on environmental crises and to address the accelerating impacts of climate change.
Mr. Lieu, a leader in Congress on the issue of climate, also issued the following Earth Day statement:
“We look around and see the devastation already happening due to climate change. From public health crises, to severe droughts and famine, to wildfires and floods, the time to act is long past overdue. My home state of California is entering into its fifth year of a historic drought. This past year was the hottest on record, surpassing the unprecedented record set by 2014. Already, the first three months of 2016 have witnessed record high temperatures.
“As a result, on this Earth Day, I call on House Republicans and climate deniers to wake up, look around, and act on climate. When the Vatican, the U.S. Military, 97% of climate scientists and Exxon Mobil’s own scientists recognize climate science, I wonder what climate deniers think they know that these global leaders don’t.
“To those who continue to spread lies and deception about climate science and to those who continue to perpetuate climate deceit – you are responsible for the destruction of our planet and potentially all of humanity, and you must be held accountable.”
