A Hollywood Hills memorial service will be held Thursday for Steve Bickel, a film producer and studio executive best known for producing the 1980 Christopher Reeve-Jane Seymour drama “Somewhere in Time.”
Bickel died Sept. 4 during a hiking trip in Portugal, a spokeswoman said. He was 64.
His other producing credits include “The Big Empty,” “Blind Dating” and “Love Comes to the Executioner.”
After producing “Somewhere in Time” in 1980, Bickel became vice president of independent sales for Warner Bros. International, then joined Richard Branson’s burgeoning Virgin Group. He later became president of Samuel Goldwyn International until its sale to MGM, when he became president of Shooting Gallery International.
He later worked at Aura Entertainment, and more recently worked as a consultant for Banque Paribas’ entertainment financing division and led Orpheum Communications.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive.
He is survived by his nephew, David; cousin Sylvia; and stepsister Daisy.
