Blues Legend Buddy Guy Opens CAP UCLA 2015-2016 Season August 13 at Royce Hall

CAP_LG_BLUE_R01Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA (CAP UCLA) is proud to welcome blues icon Buddy Guy Thursday August 13 at Royce Hall, in the first performance of the 2015-2016 season. Local trio The Record Company will open the concert. Tickets ($49-$119) are available now via cap.ucla.edu, Ticketmaster and the UCLA Central Ticket office at 310.825.2101.

In an incomparable career that spans over 50 years with as many albums released, Guy’s career highlights include six Grammy Awards, 28 Blues Music Awards, Kennedy Center Honors, NARM Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement, Billboard Music Awards’ Century Award for distinguished artistic development, Presidential National Medal of Arts, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

HIs new studio album “Born To Play Guitar,” set for release July 31st on Silvertone/RCA Records, features guest appearances by Van Morrison, Joss Stone, Kim Wilson and Billy Gibbons. Morrison joins Buddy on the heartfelt “Flesh & Bone,” a song dedicated to the late great B.B. King. On “Come Back Muddy” Guy reminisces about the good ole days with his friend Muddy Waters. The album is produced by Grammy Award-winning producer/songwriter Tom Hambridge.

In the short span of three years, The Record Company (Los Angeles, CA) has gone from recording their junkiest instruments in the bass player’s living room to playing with a diverse range of music’s top acts including BB King, Buddy Guy, Charles Bradley, The Wood Brothers, Social Distortion, and Robert Randolph. This group trio has been described by Time Out L.A.  as if “John Lee Hooker and The Stooges had a love-child”.

The band’s live show has quickly become acclaimed throughout North America and has drawn capacity audiences from Los Angeles to Montreal. Last summer The Record Company performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival, Summerfest (Milwaukee), Quebec City International Summer Festival, Ottawa Bluesfest, Ottawa Folkfest, and Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival among others. The band also gained a new fan base by way of their cover of the Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie”, which was chosen by The Dead as one of the top covers of their “Dead Covers Project”.  The band was featured by The Dead on their website (dead.net) for the month of July 2013.
