A Taiwan-born filmmaker and two of China’s biggest movie stars will sink their hands and feet into cement in the forecourt of the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX today in connection with this month’s 88th anniversary of its opening.
In the Chinese culture, the number 8 is considered very lucky and is widely celebrated.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase the synergy that now exists between China and Hollywood, two important partners, both creatively and commercially, in the making and distribution of movies worldwide,” said Alwyn Hight Kushner, the president and COO of the TCL Chinese Theatres.
Justin Lin directed four of the “Fast & Furious” films. He was born in Taiwan, raised in Orange County and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UCLA. He is set to direct the next film in the “Star Trek” series.
Today’s other honorees are the award-winning Chinese actress Zhao Wei and Huang Xiaomin, one of China’s most popular stars. They star in the Lin- produced action-comedy “Hollywood Adventures,” set to be released June 26.
The cast of “Hollywood Adventures” also includes Simon Helberg from the hit CBS comedy “The Big Bang Theory.”
