Interested in a free art exhibit that represents local perspectives? This month, Westfield Century City is fusing the worlds of fashion and art with the shopping center launching a pop-up art gallery.
Featuring the artwork of three Southern California-based photographers, the brick-and-mortar installations are currently displayed throughout the mall in dedicated storefronts and will remain through April 30 for shoppers and art enthusiasts to admire.
The three spotlighted artists/photographers – Kimberly Genevieve (@KimGenevieve), Michael Dummler (@On_AbbotKinney), and Ted Emmons (@TedEmmons) – all find inspiration from their local surroundings.
Although Genevieve is originally from Ottawa, she has been described as a true California girl at heart as her aesthetics incorporate sunny palettes, clean designs, and surfer style.
As for Dummler, the Venice-based photographer captures both the street style of Abbot Kinney as well as locations all over the globe. Dummler is constantly traveling in order to take shots of major fashion weeks and other events, having had collaborations with renowned brands including Helmut Lang, AG Jeans, Bloomingdale’s, and Levi’s.
For Emmons, a Southern Califiornia native, an interest in photography, graphic design, and art in general was sparked by a career in modeling. Emmons’ art is influenced by music, fashion, and the outdoors.
The trio of photographers all hold large social media followings and heavily use Instagram medium to showcase their works.
Appropriately, visitors can take an interactive role in this series of art installations through Instagram as well: shoppers have the chance to win a signed print from a featured artist by voting for their favorite mini gallery. Fans can enter the competition by uploading an image of their favorite mini gallery, using the campaign hashtag #IHeartArts, and tagging Westfield Century City at @WestfieldCC. There will be one winner randomly selected per gallery.
This showcase of the arts was motivated by the desire to continue accurately representing Century City and the greater Los Angeles region.
“Westfield is a reflection of the city around us,” Melanie Bender, senior marketing director at Westfield Century City, said. “Arts and culture in L.A. are thriving, and we saw an opportunity to make something with those emerging visionaries. Pop Up Art gives a new platform to L.A.’s rising photographers, and creates an iconic fusion of art, fashion, and place for our shoppers to explore.
