As part of Turner Classic Movies’ tribute to “The Sound of Music,” actor Christopher Plummer sank his hands and feet into the cement in the TCL Chinese Theatre forecourt today.
The Canadian-born actor beamed as he held up his cement-covered hands during the ceremony, which was emceed by TCM co-host Ben Mankiewicz.
Actress Shirley MacLaine introduced the 85-year-old actor, calling him a longtime “compatriot” and friend. The two appeared together in “Elsa & Fred.”
The ceremony was part of the TCM Classic Film Festival, which continues through Sunday and is, in part, celebrating the 50th anniversary of “The Sound of Music,” in which Plummer portrayed the head of the Von Trapp family.
Plummer’s other films include “Stage Struck,” “The Man Who Would Be King,” “Waterloo,” “Fall of the Roman Empire,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “National Treasure” and “Inside Man.”
Despite his long and celebrated career, Plummer was not nominated for an Oscar until 2010, when he received a nod for best supporting actor for “The Last Station.” He finally won an Academy Award in 2012 for his supporting role in “Beginners.”
He will next been seen in “Danny Collins” with Al Pacino and “The Forger” with John Travolta.
