The cost of parking at two 24-hour Hollywood garages, including one near the Pantages Theater, has been reduced to match the $2 per hour cost of parking on nearby streets, a city councilman announced today.
The transportation department this week began charging $2 per hour during the first two hours at the city’s Lot 702 on Vine Street and Lot 670 on Cherokee Avenue, Councilman Mitch O’Farrell said.
The reduced fees remain in effect until March.
O’Farrell said he was working with the Department of Transportation to address “an unfair pricing structure” for parking garages that has put “Hollywood businesses at a competitive disadvantage far too long,” O’Farrell said.
The Vine Street garage previously charged $2 per half-hour, and the Cherokee Avenue garage charged $2 every 15 minutes. The old fees still apply after the first two hours.
“We hope to encourage using these garages more often and help save drivers from having to circle the block to find less expensive on-street parking spaces,” said Seleta J. Reynolds, the general manager of the Department of Transportation.
The Vine Street garage at 1625 N. Vine Street is near the Pantages Theatre and has 457 spaces. It can be entered from Vine Street, between Hollywood Boulevard and Selma Avenue, and from Ivar Avenue, between Hollywood Boulevard and Selma Avenue.
The Cherokee Avenue garage at 1710 Cherokee Ave., north of Hollywood Boulevard, has 386 spaces.

The transportation department is also considering setting up validation and valet parking programs for the Hollywood area.
