An attorney who once represented the mother of “Modern Family” co-star Ariel Winter in her bid to regain custody of her daughter settled his lawsuit with his former client over allegedly unpaid fees.
Roy Penuela filed court papers Tuesday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Barbara Meiers stating that his case against Chrisoula Workman was resolved.
No terms were divulged. However, the complaint, filed Jan. 2, sought nearly $75,000.
According to the suit, Penuela and Workman entered a contract in June 2013 for his legal services in helping her fight the temporary guardianship that her older daughter, Shanelle Gray, was granted over Winter amid allegations of mental abuse by the mother toward the actress.
On Nov. 1, Judge Daniel Murphy approved Penuela’s request to withdraw as Workman’s attorney after the lawyer cited substantial differences between him and his client. The ruling occurred over Workman’s objection.
In May, Murphy granted permanent guardianship of the 16-year-old actress to Gray after Workman agreed not to contest the issue further.
Workman said her troubles with her youngest daughter began after she expressed her disapproval of the girl’s romantic relationship with actor Cameron Palatas.
