Culver City police warned the public on May 22 to beware of a telephone scam in which the caller claims to be a jailed family member and asks for bail money to be wired to him.
Several people reported being targeted in the past week, police said.
The caller typically gives a call-back number, but it is not a legitimate police number.
“Be advised that these are fraudulent phone calls, and we are currently investigating the matter,” police stated. “Do not send money to anyone that you have not confirmed to be legitimate.”
Anyone who has received similar suspicious calls was urged to call Culver City police at (310) 253-6208.
